Open House


  Homework- should take 30-45 minutes maximum, and should not require your help. Classroom language is English- children may translate for each other when needed- we all remind each other to speak English. Learning is ongoing, hands on, repeated to meet different learning styles, and to differentiate for different levels. Homework- should take 30-45 minutes maximum, and should not require your help.

Classroom language: Children may translate for each other when needed- we all remind each other to speak English. Learning is ongoing, hands on, repeated to meet different learning styles, and to differentiate for different level’s. NO TEXTBOOKS to study from. English Langue Students are reading everyday in literacy.
-Oral Language- speaking and listening daily through learning centers. Phonics- daily practicing sounds, blending words and making complete sentences. Writing- daily story writing with a writing focus: Standard features: writing on the line, using the correct size letters, capitals/full stops/periods, finger spaces, punctuation, sentence structure and revising.
- Deeper features-choosing a topic and genre, writing in the past, present and future. Students will also learn how to write letters and poetry.
-Reading-library, whole class lessons and center based learning. Learning- art activities, drama, library corner, buddy reading, writing centres, guided reading.
- Reading log- Once a student has reached 50 book’s. That students name will be posted for all elementary students to acknowledge. Once 100 books are reached they will receive a gift from me.


Social Development : Build independence- I do not check, unpack or pack bags. Children know routines and what is expected of them. Behaviour expectations are high. Students are learning friendships, how to speak to each other.

Progress Report: All reports will go out the end of the trimester- no grades, only 1, 2, 3, 4.


Projects: Project based learning is extremely effective. Studies show that hands on learning is the best method to use when teaching all grades. Projects give each child a chance to use their imagination, create and learn. Please complete all assigned projects.


Food: GP School policy asks parents to please send only healthy food. The Grade 1 and 2 children have been really good bringing healthy foods! This week, the teachers have been monitoring the food and reminding children about food they can have or not have at school. Starting on Monday, we will take away any banned food that children come to school with. Thank you for helping to keep our school healthy! The following is a reminder of foods that are not allowed at school:
Chocolate- this includes chocolate or Nutella sandwiches
Molto Chipsy- this includes Chipsy sandwiches
chewing gum
Chocolate cookies like Oreo or Borio
candies
Foods that have a lot of sugar Thank you for your help!


Uniforms
Now that winter is approaching. Please tag your child’s hoodies and jackets with his/her first and last name.


How you can help!

Channel book and green folder- send daily

Library books only Wednesdays.


Health: Parent with winter approaching please send dettol hand sanitizer and large tissues packs. This will help with reducing the spread of germs.
