Monday June 10, 2013: Students wanted a dish party tomorrow. Therefore tomorrow, Monday June 10, 2013. Students can bring treats/food to share with friends. We will also be watching a movie. 

Tuesday June 11, 2013 : Last day of school will be June 11, 2013. No uniforms on the last day of school!

Field Trip

We had a great time on our field trip! The children were really well-behaved and had a nice time for our end of year party! We were very safe and had a lot of adults watching the children!

Last week

This is our last week of school :( I will miss all of the children!  
This week we have half days, so the children will have review lessons, but we will also be tidying up our classroom and the children's cubbies.  They will begin to bring home their workbooks this week and next. There will be no homework next week. Yesterday and today the children are finishing their portfolios. The children are amazed at all they have learned from September until now!  

Summer Packets

I will send summer packets on Tuesday. Please complete at least 1 page a week during the summer.


Class Books

The class book called Dairy of A Second Grader came home today.  Students have worked very hard all year and Im so proud of them. Encourage your child to read some of the stories to you.

Movies
Students can bring movies on Sunday and Monday to watch. 

Update

This week we will be doing lots of review and starting our end of year assessments. We will not be learning new things. There will be no English homework (except Reading) and there will be Math review. Please check the homework section for the Math homework.
We are going on our last trip on Tuesday to the cinema. Today a notice will tell you that there is a change of venue for our field trip- we will now be going to City Stars, and will have pizza.

English
This week we will be review lesson 16-Lesson 30.  Therefore students do not have homework.  Nevertheless we are working on lesson 29-30 in class. Students can complete as much of these two lesson as they want.

Spelling
Lesson 29 vocabulary words. Test will be on Sunday June 2, 2013.

Reading
Read for 15-20 minutes everyday

Math
I'm introducing American money this week. It may take time for students to get aquatinted with this foreign money. Therefore students will not have homework this week for Math.

Field Trip
.The grade 1 and 2 teachers thought it would be nice to celebrate the end of the school year together and watch a movie and have lunch.  This is in place of a class party! ~~A field trip permission slip was sent home on Thursday. It is our last trip of the year and we are making it a fun one! Please return the slips with the fee by Thursday. We will update you as there maybe new changes for the trip. I hope everyone can join us!

 

Still Learning
~~I know it's nearing the end of the year and we only have 12 school days left! However, we still have TONS of learning to do to finish out the year. Since we don't have exams in Grade 2, we continue learning new things all the way until the last week of school. Therefore, if you could, please try to make sure your student comes to school each day and arrives on time at 7:45am or they could be missing out on valuable lessons. It's hard to for them to complete lessons or projects when they are absent. Thank you for your cooperation.

 

 

Productions
--The children are excited for the school production this week!  Please ensure that your children are on time for the bus pickup, or for being dropped off at the gate, and that you are on time for the show!  I saw their performance last week and they are great!!!  I just wanted to let you know that you can send in money to purchase tickets, but the tickets are also available for purchase at the door on Thursday evening. Also, your students who are performing are free but everyone else needs a ticket. However, if you have a young child who may be sitting on your lap, you do not need to purchase a ticket for them. You only need to purchase a ticket for individuals who will need to sit in a chair.

For our class: - They will need to wear black shoes.
- Please arrive on time as we will start 5:30
- Please pick up your child right after the show is over.

12 Days

 12 more days of school!!!! Our monthly value this month is perseverance. Please help us remind your students to keep working hard and being focused all the way until the last day. Thanks for all your support this year. Let's finish the year out strong!

Reminder that tomorrow is the trip to Plein Air.

Please remember to send your student in proper uniform. Also, please send an extra shirt, water and hat that you don't care about if it get's paint on it.

Also, please remember to send healthy food and snacks. A trip is just like any other day and the school policies still need to be followed. Also, please send your student's regular backpack and files to school just as usual. Thank you.

          Wednesday, we are celebrating Egypt Day. We will do fun Egypt related activities. Your student can come dressed out of uniform if they are dressed in Egypt clothing. This means they can wear traditional Egyptian clothes, like a Galabaya or they can dress in Egypt's colors.

      We will also have a dish party in class. Please send traditional Egyptian dishes such as fuul, tameyya, koshary, etc. The Arabic staff sent home a note about this as well. Please only send enough food for our class. Keep in mind that most everyone will send a dish so there will be a lot of food for the students to share. We don't want to have too much extra food that may go to waste.Thank you for all of your help and cooperation to make our Egypt Day a success!

Yesterday the field trip permission slip forms were sent home. Next Monday, April 22, we are going to Plein Air. The cost is 65 LE. The permission slip and fee needs to be returned to school by this Wednesday, April 17. After this date money will not be excepted.  We will be doing different activities, including painting and planting so we may get dirty. Therefore students need to wear the school uniform, but please send a shirt that you don't mind if they get paint or dirt on.

It is starting to get hot out!  Please remember to send EXTRA water to school each day for your child!  There are many times that children do not have any water to drink for the whole day, or they have finished their water from P.E. and the tap water is not safe for drinking.

You may send 3 LE for your child to keep in their backpack in case they do run out of water.

Please send 1 small, sealed bottle of water (Dasani, Nestle etc) by Thursday that I can keep in the classroom in case your child drinks all of their water or does not have any for the day.

Amazing Class! 

It was great to see some families at the Carnival yesterday!  It was a fun day and nice and warm!
Before I get started, I just want to say how amazed and proud I am of the Grade 2B children.  They have become a really lovely little group who enjoy each other, and most of the time work hard to be friends.  But most of all, I am amazed at the English the children have learned.  I know that they are excited about speaking now, as we have started having a morning chat- we talk about anything- being sick, spring break, our weekends, things that the children have seen and heard or anything they want to talk about or ask about!  They now have the skills and vocabulary to be able to ask questions and participate in a discussion, as well as to be able to listen.  I am just so incredibly proud of them!  And they are very proud of themselves!  Please be sure to tell your child that you are proud too! We have each created a learning goal to achieve before the end of the year. We have posted our goals outside our class room door. Some children want to improve in reading, and some children made some goals regarding their writing.  Each student picked there own goal. We have agreed the the whole class will work hard and reach all there goals. Parents please encourage them.

Carnival Fun

Annual Carnival and Art Exhibition for family and friends of GP School. This will be a fun filled day of activities and games.  10 am to 5 pm on Saturday 13th of April, 2013.
