Go for the Goal!
Goals – this word has been mentioned a lot throughout this week because it’s a big focus in our classroom. The concept of setting high, yet attainable goals is something I have been introducing to the children this week. They could be academic or personal goals. We will display these goals on our “Go for the Goal!” wall and revisit them on a regular basis, checking in on our goal achievement progress.
Brightpoint Literacy Program
I have finally completed the initial running record assessments for each child. In non-teacher terms, that just means that I am ready to begin our new reading groups with the students! Yahoo! I will start meeting with reading groups next week, but it will take a week or two for me to work out a smooth rotation so that I am able to meet with each reading group equally. Your child will take home one-2 book each a week, at their reading level. This way, your child will gain more confidence as a reader, while building fluency and basic comprehension at their own pace. As I tell the children all the time in class, we all learn differently and at different paces. Remember, the books your child takes home will be at a level which they can read independently, with about 90% accuracy. As your child’s reading progresses, so will the leveled books he/she takes home. There will be days when I don’t have time to meet with your child’s reading group. On those days, he/she will choose a book from the browsing box to take home for their 15 minute reading homework. This should make reading time at home much more productive and enjoyable! It’s very important that your children read every day at home. The reading log was sent home today. Every time your child reads a story please write the required information in the reading log so they can receive credit. Every child needs reinforcement at home so let’s keep this excitement about reading! I need your help at home to do that. Please find the 15 minutes each day to support your young reader at home! Thanks parents for all that you do! We are in this together.
Cafeteria
Parents please send your child with a healthy lunch and extra water everyday. Please do not send money or coupons for the cafeteria until further notice. The lower elementary procedure is in the process of being changed.
