Hello!

My name is Mrs. Michelle Myers, and I will be your child’s grade 2 teacher this year. I am very excited to be a part of the Global Paradigm School. We are going to have so much fun this year learning new things, getting better at being organized and making new friends. I am looking forward to getting to know your child and making each school day enjoyable.

Our classroom will be a warm and caring place that encourages children to learn through rich and learning experiences, to build friendships and develop great values. I will do my best to ensure that each student has a safe and motivating learning experience in this upcoming year. We will be working on advancing children learning in achieving academic excellence along with the development of their character.

It is important to maintain a home/school relationship so that you are informed of your child’s academic and social development and you are able to inform me of any issues that arise. Coming to school everyday is very important to your child’s learning.

In Grade 2 we will study both subjects throughout the trimester.  We will learn about the different maps and how we can read them. We will also explore the meaning of “culture”.

Communication:
I appreciate how important it is for parents and teachers to communicate. If you have any questions throughout the school year, please do not hesitate to contact me. I will be communicating with you ongoing about what we are doing in class as well as other activities we are involved in during the school year. Once again, welcome to our class and I look forward to having a wonderful year with your children.

Blog:
The homework will be posted on this blog every Sunday. Please make sure to check it several times a week for any updates.

Food:

Children will have two thirty minute breaks. Please send healthy food with your child as any chocolate or candies will be taken away. It is important that they start their day with healthy food to have energy for their learning. Children may have a bottle of water in the class at all times. All soda drinks are not allowed. If your child has an allergy to any food, please let me know.

Grade 2 Reading Log:
Reading is so important. Please read each night with your child. Many nights the children will bring their books home to read. Please encourage them and be patient. For each book your child reads to you, please write it down. Please sign next to the story. Each day I will put a sticker next to the book. When your child has read 100 books, we will have a celebration.

Gifts:
School policy states that teachers are unable to accept any gifts from anyone. A small card as a gesture of kindness is acceptable.

Trips:
Grade two will go on several trips through the year as it ties into our areas of learning.

Birthday Parties:
Invitations for birthday parties may be given out at school if invitations are given to all students. This is to make sure no one feels left out.

Grading:

The children in Grade 2 will be graded on their mastery of skills as they learn in each of the learning areas. They will not be assigned a letter grade. Details about your child’s progress will be provided in a school report at the end of each trimester.
